I like painting the character of a tree in the Canadian landscape. Obviously inspired by the Group of Seven, this painting is typical of the wilderness scene only a few miles from my studio. I tried to capture the moment early in the morning when the fish are rising to the surface to feed on newly hatched bugs. 

I've had many requests to do online tutorials of my paintings. I am a retired teacher and know  how much work is involved in creating a good tutorial. I would prefer to spend my time painting rather than creating lessons. However, I have started creating video timelapses when doing my painting and posting them on my youtube channel. It is not really a tutorial but you can watch my process and apply some of it to your own work.

I took the plunge and set  up a booth at the Whyte Ave Art Walk in Edmonton Alberta. I bought a 10X10 tent, fashioned a backdrop to hang my work, and enlisted my daughter to help me out. It was a gruelling three days. Setup in the morning, teardown in the evening, record breaking heat, and huge crowds of people. It was wonderful!
 The whole experience has inspired me to paint more and plan for many future art shows and walks. 

When I retired from my teaching job  in 2020, I had a dream that I would spend my time traveling and creating art, than selling my work at art fairs during the summer. Little did I know, COVID would change those plans. I continued to create artwork...lots of artwork. With nowhere to sell my work it started to accumulate quickly. When I ran out of wall space I knew I had to do something, so I began selling work on Etsy, Fine Art America, Pixels.com, and a whole host of other online galleries. Things were going well. I could make enough to feed my addiction.
It was about that time that I bought the latest iPad Pro and an Apple pencil, and discovered that painting technology had come a long way in the last 5 years. I have always been interested using technology to create art but up until then the tools were pretty crude. To my delight I discovered that I could paint on the iPad using digital brushes that were indistinguishable from real paint.  
As COVID winds down I have been able to get out to live shows to sell my work. Although people seemed to like my digital paintings, many were turned off when they learned they were painted digitally. They seemed to think that it was fake art, that the computer did all the work. I have decided to go back to traditional painting mediums and create REAL paintings.
